Why do people say that workers are more important than the businesses, vice versa?

Most people work for someone else and fail to understand how the relationship works as well as their actual worth in the over all scheme of things. Executed correctly, one hand washes the other and everyone wins. Instead, what we generally have is an Us VS them war in the work place.
