According to my history teacher, God and the church were created by the nobility for one reason only?

God and the church have been around a LOT longer than the middle ages (which were roughly 5th-15th centuries). Judaism and Christianity both predate it by centuries and millenia. Your history teacher should probably try to read some history before s/he teaches it.
