Recently my girlfriend decided that she just wants to be friends because she is going thru alot in her life?

we have been seeing each other for nearly a year and recently she moved back to her home state in Jan. We had a good relationship until recently when i felt she was withdrawing from me not wanting 2 talk on phone minimal texts etc she has always told me she loves me and wants me to be with her forever but 2 weeks ago she told me she wants to be just friends and that she needs time because she is going through alot w impending divorce, misbehaving child, foreclosure and bankruptcy. Am I being to selfish for wanting more than texts and the ocional im or phone call? How long should I wait for her if I truly love her and want to give her her space and time she needs? Her friend confirmed that she wasn't seeing anyone else also.
