My kitten eats clay litter, dangerous?

i use Purina tidy cats clay cat litter, and it used da little box before so i think it knows how to use it, but sometime i dont know when it needs to go, so i place him in the litter box and it starts eating the clay, is that really dangerous ? i know clumping clay is but im using regular clay, please tell me what i can do, thanks guys
