Best 24" Monitor? 16:10 or 16:9? Gateway, HP, Dell, Samsung?

I have a 22" Westinghouse monitor (widescreen). I was looking at the Dell 2409W, but I saw a posting that shows it has many problems. I'm trying to learn to draw and would like a monitor that pivots between landscape and portrait if I can get it. I also tend to watch movies on my monitor (which means a 16:9 monitor would be in order). Is 16:9 or 16:10 the future of monitors? I do play games now and again. With current gaming requirements, should I look for a new monitor now (11/08) with the monitor's resolution maxes at 1920x1080 or wait for something that reaches a higher maximum resolution?
